Interview with Snehal Chandak | Indian Digital Club

I hope this can inspire you to become a successful digital marketing expert too! Why is it important to hear the story of a successful digital marketing expert?
Having the vision to become a digital marketing expert is great. Making it happen is another story!

The story of real people, like you and me, who decided to take their life into their hands and make their dreams come true, for the greater good! The story of a real successful digital marketing expert, who built their success from scratch: thanks to their passion, their authenticity, and their vision!

In that frame, I had the pleasure to interview Snehal Chandak, a Digital marketing expert.

1. How you started a career in digital marketing?
Like all other Indian parents who aspire their child to be an engineer, I too had completed my Bachelors in Engineering and when I was doing a job search one of my friends suggested Digital Marketing and I began my Digital Marketing Journey as an Intern in one of the organizations in Pune and like many organizations in the market I didn’t receive any good learning or experience as a by-product of 3 Months.
After the internship, I was still curious to learn more about Digital Marketing and currently working on my own startup ( Social media Agency – socialsnehal )
I currently have an experience of 3+ years as a Digital Marketer with Social Media being my core expertise.
Rules of life: Don’t let others write the rule of your life, Loyalty.
Later on, I need to change my approach and keeping in mind that executing new things I began a Facebook Group called “Indian Digital Club”. The constant information share influences me to acknowledge there are numerous things we need to cover.

2. What was your biggest challenge so far in the journey as women?
-First of all, I think there should be an Increase in awareness of Digital Marketing for Women and a need for a conducive environment.
-There are many factors that constraints that affect the productivity of women such as scope, opportunity, environmental etc.
-One of the common challenges which every working woman can agree is achieving the right balance in the family and at the workplace.
-Time management skills and discipline that are perquisites for a job.
-Opportunities for women to pursue their interests by choosing different streams in Digital Marketing.
-Digital Marketing challenges from the Individual and Industry perspective.
-Challenges women face in a freelance job and ways to overcome it.
-Creating stimulating groups and discussing aspects of overcoming specific challenges of working from home.
-Fake friend’s request, which is common for all, right? but as a female marketer, I have to go through this every day.
My most frustrating and biggest challenge are the unnecessary requests of people for Face to Face meetings without confirming their Digital Marketing requirements and pricing.

3. What are Tips for Female Digital Marketers?
1. Find an Inspirational Mentor
As Leanne Goddins, Group Account Director at NATIVE VML advises women to find a mentor to help them gain confidence, make great career choices and actively identify and pursue opportunities. She says, “It’s vital to treat your work as a career, and not just as a job you come to every day.”

2. Don’t Give Up
As Arianna Huffington, Chair, President and Editor-in-Chief for the Huffington Post advises women to never give up. She encourages us to try new things and embrace failures. When speaking of perseverance she says, “That’s probably the most important message that we can give to younger women. I constantly talk to my friends and family (papa)  about my failures. Because in the end, if you look at what makes people succeed, especially women, it’s about not giving up.”

3. Use Your Diversity
As Vanessa Gibb, Native VML Head of HR says that women need to use their unique power, insight and way of thinking to their advantage. She says, “The strength women need to build on is their diversity – different ways of thinking and bringing new insights to the table. So use that.” Her mission is to encourage women in their digital career pursuits, hoping that in two years’ time we’ll see a more representative and diverse culture in the digital workplace. She concludes that “Clients are asking for a change.” Let’s be that change.

4. Be Unashamedly Confident
As Kathy Rae Huffman, CEO of Huffman thinks that women need to demonstrate confidence and a sense of self-worth. She says, “Have confidence in yourself – and when you have your moments of doubt, as everyone does, keep it behind closed doors. If you want something – be it a speaking slot or a specific client or a raise at your agency – go after it. Don’t wait for life to hand you things because you’ll be standing around with empty hands. And never, ever let someone else’s opinion of you or treatment of you determine your own self-worth or where you can go.”

5. Never Stop Learning
As Mary Mattar, Internet Marketing Manager of Webpage FX highlights the importance of continuous learning to keep your knowledge up to date. She says, “The best thing you can do is continue to read books and articles, stay on top of this ever-evolving industry (because it changes A LOT!) And hone your technical skills. There are tons of great resources you can use to your advantage.”
Let’s change the industry’s perception, let’s change our perception. Because women are strong and powerful and capable digital marketers. It would be nice to see more of them in leadership roles.
At last I give like to give advice to all women is to enter who enter in any sector, still mostly managed by men, and that we can and should demonstrate our equality and enjoy mechanics if that is what really passionate you.
