1. What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Ever since I launched my own business, from the time my feet hit the ground, I am excited about what opportunities the day will bring. My business involves representing some very cool travel brands from around the world to the Indian travel community – so I am always excited about what new product I will discover that would be exciting to connect with, the new people I will meet, the conversations where I will learn something new and the chance to only get better at what I do every day.

2. Why should people choose your product/service?
Our clients are decision makers who own/run international hotels, destinations, attractions, sightseeing activities, airlines, cruises and other experiences. With India growing in terms of the number of international travellers (estimated to reach 50 million by 2020), many companies are looking to develop the Indian market. They would choose us because we have over a decade of experience in travel, we are young, hungry to succeed and like to be creative in our thinking when we work with our clients.

3. What inspired you to start “Explorer” company?
I have nearly 13 years of experience representing international hotels, airlines and car rental brands to the Indian market. After the opportunity to work with these brands and working with the best in the industry I was very excited to start my own venture in the travel space. The opportunity for representation is growing in India, particularly in the South of India as more and more Indians are seeking new holiday experiences in terms of destinations, attractions, hotels, cruises and sightseeing experiences.

4. How much capital do you have and when do we expect cash flow break even?
We are completely bootstrapped. We started with a capital of just Rs. 5 lakhs, we expect to break even in Year 2.

5. Who are the biggest competitors and how are they doing? If there are no competitors, why?
There are more than 60 representation companies in India all of whom represent some great destinations, hotels and other travel products. They are more present in the West (Mumbai) and North (Delhi). We are based in the South we will focus on developing more travellers and relationships with the travel buyer community in the Southern States but will also develop the market for our clients PAN India.

6. What comes first for you money or emotions?
Emotional Intelligence.

7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
An evolved entrepreneur who can provide opportunities for others to succeed and a woman who can inspire others to live their dream.

8. If you had the opportunity to start this business again what would you do differently?
We are so new it’s too early to answer that question. Let’s do this interview again in a year.

9. If you sold your company today, what would be the tone of the conversation? What would you want to gain? What would you want to avoid losing?
The tone would be of handling over a beloved pet for adoption. I would want to gain learnings for my next venture and I would want to avoid losing the value of the brand I have created. And money, I would like to not lose money!

10. What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Do it! And whatever happens, do not look back.
