Tvama Organics Blends Tradition with Science

I hope this can inspire you to become a successful entrepreneur too! Why is it important to hear the story of a successful entrepreneur?

Having the vision to become an entrepreneur is great. Making it happen is another story!

In that frame, We had the pleasure to interview Tanvi Jalan, the founder of Tvama Organics. Tvama Organics is an organic skincare brand revolutionizing the concept of Ayurveda. Tvama Organics is founded by Tanvi Jalan & Tanmay Jalan.

1. How you started Tvama Organics. What was your source of motivation?
Tvama came into existence through extensive research on natural remedies to address the problems faced by sensitive skin, a common issue for many consumers. The founders decided to develop products that are suitable for all skin types and promote healthy skin based on the concept of using everyday kitchen ingredients. ‘Tvama was born from our deep understanding of nature’s well-preserved secrets, their effectiveness, and the growing need for conscious and honest skincare,’ the brother-sister duo shares about their company’s foundation story.

2. What is the vision for your brand? What do you hope to achieve with your company? What are your goals for the future?
We are committed to offering indulgent, ethical, honest, and potent beauty products that champion innovative skincare and are free of harmful chemicals. All our products are a blend of plant-derived active ingredients with powerful and effective properties. We aim to redefine the skincare space with our simple products and eliminate the use of harmful chemicals that are spreading in the market.

3. What is your competitive advantage? What makes your brand unique? What sets you apart from other brands?
We offer products at competitive prices compared to other brands in the same segment. While many brands claim to have natural products, their claims often don’t live up to reality. We’ve developed premium-level products at a mid-range price point.

4. What is your business model? How do you plan to make money? When will you break even? What is USP of the Tvama Products?
We operate online through our website and various e-commerce platforms. We offer curated gift hampers, along with customizable options for corporate events, private functions, and other occasions. We’ve proudly reached our break-even point, demonstrating customer appreciation for our products. Even without marketing investment yet, achieving this milestone is a testament to our success.

5. What are the biggest challenges you face as a startup? What are the obstacles that you need to overcome in order to be successful?
As a startup, I’ve encountered people trying to mislead us and agencies that underdeliver on their promises. The biggest challenge, however, was getting consumers to try our products. Skincare is a personal choice, and people are understandably hesitant to switch brands. I’ve managed the brand solo to date, ensuring meticulous attention to detail before launching products. Our marketing approach will always prioritize honesty, avoiding gimmicky tactics that prioritize clients over genuine value.

6. What are your goals for the future? Where do you see your startup in five years?
We began with skincare, and now we’ve expanded into haircare and incenses as well. My vision is to see our brand become a staple in Indian households. We plan to enter other personal care categories, offering the best in beauty and wellness to Indian consumers.

7. How do you plan to build and maintain a strong team?
Absolutely, fostering a strong team is crucial. A brand’s success hinges on the knowledge and dedication of its people. We prioritize building a positive work environment where we treat our team members with respect and value, fostering a sense of camaraderie.

8. What are your thoughts on the future of the vegan and chemical free cosmetics brands?
The future undoubtedly looks bright for vegan and chemical-free cosmetic brands. There’s been a positive shift in the market, with consumers moving away from using international brands as a status symbol and recognizing the quality of domestic options. Globally, there’s a growing appreciation for Ayurveda and a trend towards natural, homegrown solutions for healthcare and well-being. Our products are inspired by “Dadi-Naani Ke Nuskhe” (Grandmother’s wisdom), and we firmly believe in the power of these traditional remedies passed down through generations.

9. What are your thoughts on the risks involved in starting a startup in cosmetics & personal care space?
Key risks to consider include:

Short shelf life: Products with limited shelf life can lead to waste if not sold within a specific timeframe, requiring careful inventory management.

High competition: The skincare market is saturated, and consumers are cautious about trying new brands. Building brand awareness and trust can be challenging.

Significant marketing investment: Effective marketing is crucial for success in this competitive space.

10. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting up.
You’ve taken the incredible first step of starting something new! The road ahead may have its ups and downs, but with perseverance, you’ll reach your destination. Remember, don’t give up and hold onto your passion. You’re stronger than you think, and you have the power to turn your dreams into reality.

11. What are your strengths and weaknesses.
Our strength is our quality of products. Well, I cant think of any weaknesses.

12. What is your bestseller product?
Our Ubtan Scrub Masks and incenses are the bestsellers. We have natural incenses which have zero charcoal and are made of cow dung. Plus our ubtan scrub masks offer dual benefits of Face Scrub & a Face Pack. They give you instant glow.
